Ensuring a Lifetime of Use for your Quail Ridge Piece

Our furniture and kitchenware are crafted from premium North American hardwoods, designed to bridge the gap between rugged durability and refined design. Because we use natural, living materials, your piece will evolve with your home.

Follow these steps to ensure it remains a centerpiece for generations.

1. Environmental Balance

Wood is "hygroscopic," meaning it breathes. To prevent warping or checking in your piece:

  • Avoid Heat: Keep furniture away from direct heat sources (fireplaces, radiators) and vents.

  • Humidity: Aim for a consistent indoor humidity level between 35% and 50%.

  • Sunlight: Avoid prolonged exposure to direct UV rays to prevent uneven "mellowing" of the wood's natural color.

2. Daily Cleaning

  • The Rule: Never use harsh chemical cleaners, ammonia, or silicone-based sprays (like Pledge). These will strip the hard-wax finish.

  • The Method: Use a soft, lint-free cloth slightly dampened with water. Wipe in the direction of the grain. Dry immediately with a separate cloth.

3. The "Wood Butter" Ritual

Your piece is finished with a breathable hard-wax oil that nourishes the fibers from within. To maintain that silk-satin luster, we recommend a refresh every 2 to 4 months (or whenever the wood begins to look "thirsty").

  1. Clean: Ensure the surface is free of dust and debris.

  2. Apply: Using a clean rag, apply a thin, even layer of Quail Ridge Ridge-Line Wood Butter.

  3. Wait: Allow the wax to sit for 15–20 minutes to bond with the fibers.

  4. Buff: Use a clean, dry cloth to buff the surface in circular motions until the finish is smooth and tack-free.

4. For Butcher Blocks (The Hearthstone Series)

  • Never Submerge: Hand-wash only. Never place your block in a dishwasher.

  • Sanitize: Use a 50/50 mix of white vinegar and water for natural sanitation.

  • Maintenance: Because these see high moisture, apply Wood Butter once a month to prevent the end-grain from drying out.
